Planning Older Scout Activities

See the article in Scouting magazine HERE.

See links for information on keeping older Scouts interested HERE.

See "The MacScouter's Big Book of Games, Volume 2 -- Older Scouts" HERE.

In the 1950s, Scouters in the United Kingdom published a booklet of 100 ideas for older Scouts (HERE).  Some of these ideas are impossible in today's legal and cultural environment, but many can be translated to current Scouting practice.

Try the Appalachian Trail ("AT") Experience.  This trail was designed as a 21-mile backpacking trek over Friday night to Sunday in northwestern New Jersey.  Click HERE for details, and HERE for maps.

Another hiking/backpacking option is the Batona (BAck TO NAture) Trail in southern New Jersey.  This trail covers 53 miles in the pine barrens, with a possible stop at Batsto Village.  Click HERE to select from among different information links, including a map.  Spring, fall, and winter are the recommended times, as in summer, the ticks and insects own the place.

Do your older Scouts want to do "wall climbing?"  Click HERE for links to indoor and outdoor opportunities.
